Director's Note

What a joy it is to get to return to a company I first appeared on stage with more than 15 years ago. NSLOS is celebrating 70 years of providing high quality operettas and musical entertainment to North Vancouver audiences. Die Fledermaus with its silly farce like quality is the perfect way to spend a spring evening.

For me, a lover of musical theatre, Die Fledermaus is a bit of an anomaly - nothing much happens, and yet we spend a lot of time trying to get from A to B. Once I realized the show was basically a farce everything started to fall into place. I've had the opportunity to direct some of the greatest farces of all time (Noises Off, Lend Me a Tenor and Boeing-Boeing) so for me this was absolutely in my wheelhouse.

Thankfully we have an incredible cast to carry out the material, especially vocally, it's been a joy listening to them navigate Strauss' tricky score with aplomb. Thank you as well to Thomas King, my co-conspirator in this, as well as to Roger, Nancy, Kathryn and the board of NSLOS for trusting me with this material - for their years and years of service to North Vancouver and to the theatre community at large.

Now sit back, turn your brain off and enjoy the action!
